A Day in Nantucket

I hadn’t been to Nantucket in years, so when our family decided to spend a day there, I jumped at the chance. I was excited to tour this famous whaling town with its rose-covered cottages and seashell paths.

With beach roses and hydrangeas in full bloom, the island was decorated in red, white and blue,

Island Ferry

It was a beautiful morning as we sailed out of Harwich Port on an early ferry to Nantucket. The thick fog that usually clouds the island was nowhere to be found, giving us a clear view on the one hour and 15 minute boat ride.

Exploring

Since we were there for only one day, we tried to fit in as much sightseeing as possible. I loved exploring the quant cobblestone streets, stopping to smell the roses and admiring all the stunning houses and ocean views.

We slowly made our way to town, just in time to grab lunch at Cru. Besides great food, the restaurant also offers a beautiful view of the harbor. We enjoyed lunch but made sure to save room for a signature waffle ice cream cone from the famous Juice Bar.

Shopping

After lunch we went window shopping and visited my favorite hat maker, Peter Beaton. They make custom hats of finely braided straw, adorned with a beautiful ribbon fastened with a hat pin. Mine was a gift from my niece and sister in law. Either way, a true treat to have one ...especially on hot, sunny days.

flowers in a pinch

As the day unwinded, we were fortunate to have an invitation to a friend’s home for dinner. Being a floral designer, I thought that bringing flowers would be a good idea. But where would one find a quick beautiful bouquet? Of course... I ducked into a flower friend’s shop and whipped it up myself. Thank you Flowers On Chestnut for letting me create this beauty. It’s nice to know that my flower friends and I can always count on each other. 🌸 💕

brewery

To round out the day, we made a quick pit stop at Cisco Brewery, which featured an outdoor beer garden of sorts with live music, yummy food trucks and of course a slew of different types of homemade brews made on the property. We tried the blueberry vodka and their signature grey lady beer. I wish we had a little more time to spend there... next trip!

Au revoir

Our evening ended with a stroll back through town to meet the ferry. Before we said our goodbyes, we had a chance to snap a few more photos to remember this beautiful island. Until next time.

Merci,
Sandra

P.S.
I found out that there will be an upcoming NANTUCKET GARDEN FESTIVAL on July 16-18th with private parties, garden tours and floral workshops. If you’re going to be on the island, check out ackgardenfestival.org
